We at LTZ have been developing great mobile applications in Blacksburg, located in the New River Valley. We’ve been working on such apps for the iPhone, Android and for the web. These include applications such as a GPS application, a game, a file and networking ap and a network reference app. We’re excited to show all of these off very soon and hope you’ll enjoy them as much as we’ve enjoyed making them. iOS Development Code Kitchen

Take your app and your coding skills to the next level with LTZ’s next Code Kitchen.

One of LTZ’s chief developers, Michael Ziray, will be holding another Code Kitchen for iOS and Mac development. This will be a hands-on, code intensive workshop geared towards programmers interested in starting with the iOS SDK or developers who have an app that want to extend their capabilities with more complex functionality. Michael has been developing applications in Apple’s Cocoa framework and Objective-C for over 8 years and has become an authority in the area of mobile, web and desktop application development. He will be throwing all his knowledge and experience at you during these sessions, so come prepared.

iPhone Development Overview – Quick introduction to iOS, the Cocoa Touch Framework and the Objective-C language
Views – Overview of all the most common views in Cocoa Touch
Core Data – Apple’s light weight but powerful in-app database framework
Networking – Connecting to servers with iOS devices
Graphics and Core Animation – Making simple but elegant animations within your apps
Core Location – Locating your user and your app with location services such as GPS
Consuming data – XML and other consumable data
Creating content – saving files, file sharing with iTunes

Topics to cover are subject to change and are based on attendees’ interest and skill set. Select your preferences when you sign up!

Prerequisites:

Experience in C, Objective-C, C++ or Java
Firm understanding and experience in OOP and design patterns
Basic understanding of how databases work
Basic understanding of network communication
A strong desire to learn and create awesome applications

You May Not Need a Mobile App

Mobile applications are not websites. Not everyone will need the capabilities that an iPhone, iPad or Android device have to offer. Coming from a mobile application development company, this might sound counterproductive for us to say, but we’re just being honest. If you can do what you want to do in a website, why develop or use a separate app?

Still want your content in an iPhone app? You can create a link to your mobile-friendly website right on your device’s home screen. On the iPhone or iPad, it’s very easy and you can even have a favicon-like icon for your website’s shortcut. Here’s how to put a shortcut on your iOS’s home screen:

Navigate to your favorite website on your iOS device.

Open your favorite website

Touch the + button at the bottom of the browser to bring up the add bookmark screen.

Press the "Add to Home Screen" button to add a bookmark to your device's home screen

Rename the icon to what you want and it’ll show up on your iPhone or iPad.

Click “Add,” and you now have the website or web app as an icon on your iOS device’s screen.

You can also get a custom icon when users bookmark your site since the default is simply a mini screenshot of your site. Just create a simple image, name it apple-touch-icon.png and put it in your website’s root directory. For this site, we’ve used a 129×129 pixel file, but almost any size will work.

If you’d rather use another file name, put your icon in another location or remove the gloss effect, you can use these:
