NetRef is our latest iPhone app. With NetRef, you can look up all default passwords and IP addresses for those new or old routers. Once you set up your router, you can use the built-in Ping feature to ping and test the connectivity of the router. The Ping feature for the iPhone also includes DNS resolution so you can ping a web address as well as a IP address.

We developed the app with the help of Jonathan Cost who has a strong expertise in networks and network hardware. Check out the product page to download the app. We’re always adding more routers and features, but if you have any feedback, we’d love to hear from you!

One of LTZ’s chief developers, Michael Ziray, will be holding another Code Kitchen for iOS and Mac development. This will be a hands-on, code intensive workshop geared towards programmers interested in starting with the iOS SDK or developers who have an app that want to extend their capabilities with more complex functionality. Michael has been developing applications in Apple’s Cocoa framework and Objective-C for over 8 years and has become an authority in the area of mobile, web and desktop application development. He will be throwing all his knowledge and experience at you during these sessions, so come prepared.

We at LTZ most heartily agree since our office is virtual and people can work when they want, where they want, and for as long as they wish to work. We don’t have managers that are constantly coming by your desk asking to see the latest, or requesting that second or third meeting of the day. Instead, we trust our people to know what’s the best work conditions for them. A quick talk over a drink, a short call over iChat or Skype is all we need to keep this company of super talented people going.

Still want your content in an iPhone app? You can create a link to your mobile-friendly website right on your device’s home screen. On the iPhone or iPad, it’s very easy and you can even have a favicon-like icon for your website’s shortcut. Here’s how to put a shortcut on your iOS’s home screen:

Navigate to your favorite website on your iOS device.

Open your favorite website

Touch the + button at the bottom of the browser to bring up the add bookmark screen.

Press the "Add to Home Screen" button to add a bookmark to your device's home screen

Rename the icon to what you want and it’ll show up on your iPhone or iPad.

Click “Add,” and you now have the website or web app as an icon on your iOS device’s screen.

You can also get a custom icon when users bookmark your site since the default is simply a mini screenshot of your site. Just create a simple image, name it apple-touch-icon.png and put it in your website’s root directory. For this site, we’ve used a 129×129 pixel file, but almost any size will work.

If you’d rather use another file name, put your icon in another location or remove the gloss effect, you can use these:

Use this for your own website or web app. If this is all you need, there’s no reason to develop a separate app! LTZ has been reading a lot of comics lately thanks to Klaus Schmidheiser. Klaus is responsible for such current works as Corporate Toons, a tri-weekly web comic about life in the corporate world and of course, The Plaid Avenger comic series.

The iPad is great for a reader and we wanted to take The Plaid Avenger comic and turn it into an iPad comic for a wider audience to enjoy. The Plaid Avenger is an international fighter for freedom by night and a college professor by day. Through his fight for freedom, the reader is educated on the world of politics, history and world events. As Klaus and others on the Plaid Avenger team release new comics, they’ll become available in LTZ’s newest iPad application.
